The Celestial Dinner by London-based collective LUNAFRIDGE is inspired by the art of astrology. It takes inspiration from the lunar and solar cycles and from current tensions as we struggle to balance the application of technology into our everyday, sustainable lives. How can we divert celestial inspiration towards sustainable production on earth? What modern technologies allow us to respect the future gracefully?

Liminal dinners are gastronomic events that explore the artistic and expressive potential of food. Every edition brings together a multidisciplinary team of artists, chefs, food researchers and sound designers to create unique dining experiences that engage our senses.

Worms and Horses is a two-day workshop and a public lecture around the theme of the virus delivered by Lyon-based collective, Bonjour Monde.

Before taking a pejorative connotation, even before being called a virus – a term coined by biologist Leonard Adleman – the computer virus is a game, a technical and disruptive practice, sometimes compared to graffiti art.

The virus is now a predator of the web, it awakes in us a fear of intrusion, a fear of watching, helpless, the slow degeneration of our operating system. But for some, this fear is tempered by fascination. Viruses carry an implication of the abysses of the Internet, mimicking strange mythical creatures or copying, for example, the propagation methods of certain worms, hiding under the swarming mass of our data to appear one day, activated by the innocent tip of our cursor.

We no longer want to see the virus only through its destructive power but rather in the light of its creative and surprising potential What forms would arise in each and every practice if we let it get infected by computer virus ? What viral concepts could be applied to an artistic process? This workshop will be both prospective and productive, participants will be led to imagine probable infection into their own practice as well as applying (activating) viral methods to their work. This context will guide our workshop over two days, consisting of a creation phase and a public presentation. By the end of the session processes can be invented as well as projects or recipes, even new types of viruses can be imagined.

The workshop will be followed by a public lecture on Wednesday June, 19 starting 7:30 pm at ODD.

On the opening night of the exhibition  RYBN.ORG will activate its introspective computational machine, based upon kabbalistic and numerological principles. The whole system will inexorably move towards its own destruction. On June 20th, RYBN.ORG will pronounce its findings on the circumstances of the machine’s extinction, rigorously examining the material and logical structure of the machine, its alterations and effects. This examination will eventually explain the mechanism that led to the breakdown, and will try to summarize the intricate relationships between kabbalah, cybernetics and computational technologies.

Anca Bucur is an artist whose practice is closely related to research and theoretical investments. She works with language, sound and image in a disobedient quest for exploring the material-semiotic patterns that these entities may displace, confront and communicate separately or together. As tehnics of production, she envisions concept-characters either as figurations and means of affirming a process of de-subjectification or frames for self-colonization. Currently, she is interested in exploring and conjoining topics as ecology, proto-humanity, dark metaphysics and non-human intelligent agencies.

ODD

Created in 2015, Bonjour Monde is a research group for alternative processes in the field of visual creation. Their approach leads them to question tools, software and hardware, to open and understand them in order to divert them from their initial function in an infinite search for noise, error and happy accidents. Each project, software or tool is tested through workshops and events, putting sharing and transmission at the heart of their practice. With each new idea and workshop, they bring a new look based on curiosity, sometimes naivety and often humour, to go beyond the surface of things, always outside our comfort zone. This attitude places them between the circles of graphic design and art, responding to the needs of others and creating for purely personal expression.

At the crossroads between contemporary art, research and hacking, the disnovation.org working group develops situations of disturbance, speculation, and debate, challenging the dominant ideology of technological innovation (from techno-solutionism to techno-escapism) and stimulating the emergence of alternative narratives. They recently edited The Pirate Book, an anthology on media piracy. Their research includes artworks, curation & publications.

Lukas Truniger is a visual artist and musician, who works with multimedia installations, sculptural objects, performances and the creation of new musical instruments. He is fascinated by complexity and the invisible processes in nature as well as in society. For the exploration of their inherent aesthetics he applies self-made code and circuits, hacked tools, misused instruments and objects of mass consumption. His work establishes singular experiences challenging the modalities of perception. Born in Zürich (Switzerland), he obtained a music degree from the Institute for music and media (IMM) in Düsseldorf (D) and a post graduate diploma in fine arts from Le Fresnoy – studio national des arts contemporains in Tourcoing (F). His installations and performances have been shown in the framework of international exhibitions and festivals, amongst others: Burning Man 2018 (US), Dark Circuits Festival in New York (US), Variation Media Art Fair in Paris (F), Sonica in Glasgow (UK), International Digital Arts Biennal (BIAN) in Montreal (CA), International Symposium for Electronic Arts (ISEA) in Hong Kong, PrixCube in Paris (F), Festival 100% in Paris (F), Marrakech Biennale (MA) and E-Fest in Tunis (TN).

LUNAFRIDGE develop concrete notions from ethereal ideas. Combining art and technology, astrology and gastronomy, they practice a culturally holistic approach to food selection, preparation and consumption. LUNAFRIDGE create unusual synergies between the land, the season, the sky and the body by treating carefully-selected ingredients with respect, wonder and innovation.

LUNAFRIDGE is Madeleine Botet de Lacaze and James Michael Kinlet Davis.

Madeleine is an artist and astrologer, working at the intersection of performance, queer theory and astrological insight to address the question of what makes us feel alive. Born in Buenos Aires she lives and works in London.

James is a cook and cultural technologist exploring modern ways to reveal the classic taste and experience combinations of seasonal and local dishes. Previous to LUNAFRIDGE James was the Programme Manager of Google’s Cultural Institute. There he developed projects which incorporated digital processes within arts and culture.
